Tuesday, October 17, 2017 First Contract for OPP Association Employees Ratifications Barrie, ON—Employees of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Association have overwhelming ratified their first four-year contract with Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 304. The 12 members joined Local 304 on August 4, 2016, and began negotiations on May 18, 2017. This first contract includes post-retirement health and welfare benefits for existing staff at no cost—provided they meet the applicable criteria. It also provides OPP Association employees with salary adjustments that will continue to be equal to the across-the-board increases provided to the OPP Civilian bargaining unit in their collective agreement. “All of the parties were very happy to successfully negotiate a collective agreement that is fair and reasonable, maintains existing entitlements, protects the OPP Association’s operational interests, and offers the staff terms and conditions of employment enjoyed by employees covered under the OPP Civilian bargaining unit,” says J.D. Alkema, CLAC regional director. “The membership was very supportive of the bargaining committee’s work and clearly let us know they appreciated the results we achieved. This was a very healthy process for all parties because we were seeking solutions based on our mutual success. The process was very professional and respectful." Local 304 members employed by the OPP Association are responsible for the administration services of the organization.
