First Contract for Local 52 Members at Kinley Construction of Canada

Hamilton, ON—Local 52 members employed by Kinley Construction of Canada Inc. ratified their first collective agreement in February.

The members are employed as welders, fitters, millwrights, operating engineers, and labourers at the Canadian division of this Texas-based company, which specializes in fuel transfer projects.

By the end of the three-year term, members will receive wages of $43 per hour and pension contributions of 13 percent. They are also enrolled in a CLAC Benefits Plan, bringing the total monetary package to $52 per hour.

The contract also provides premiums for nights, call-ins, and added responsibilities. Lead hands receive an additional 6 percent, forepersons receive 12 percent, and general forepersons receive 18 percent.

“We were pleased with the terms and conditions of this contract,” says Billy Wilson, Local 52 member. “The guys get weekly overtime and work 50 hours a week, so our earnings are where they need to be. The company appears to be well run, so the work looks to be steady for the members.”
