Local 303 has represented the 60 or so members here since 1980. The home is independent of Caressant Care Nursing Home, the long term care facility that has been the focus of negative media attention due to the Elizabeth Wetlauffer trial, though both facilities share the same building. However, walking the halls of the retirement home, you would never know the difficult year they’ve had, as staff have worked particularly hard to keep spirits high and provide exceptional care. “The residents are like family to me, and my co-workers are fantastic,” says Chris Mecke, a dietary aide and steward who has worked at the home for 12 years. “We all have one goal, and that is to take the best care of our ‘family’ that we can.” This family atmosphere can be seen in the rowdy games of bingo that take place in the front room, in the chalkboard full of activities available for residents throughout the week, and in the laundry room filled with towels and linens being washed and folded by the team of guest attendants chatting while they work. Local 303 is proud to represent our members at Caressant Care Retirement Home. You make this home feel warm and hospitable for everyone who steps through the front doors.
