Employees of Metal Products Company Unanimously Ratify New Five-Year Contract
Chatham, ON—Employees of 1811965 Ontario Inc., a metal products fabrication company based in Chatham, Ontario, unanimously ratified a five-year collective agreement providing them with significant wage increases.
The employees are represented by Manufacturing, Transportation, and Allied Workers Union, CLAC Local 519. The union was certified to represent the company’s employees by the Ontario Labour Relations Board in August 2017.
The new contract provides the employees with wage increases of 21 percent over the term. It also provides them with improved benefits coverage, an additional statutory holiday (10 total), increased vacation pay, and increased vacation time for those with 10-plus years of service.
“The members are happy with this settlement, as evidenced by their unanimous vote in favour of it,” says Ryan Griffioen, CLAC representative. “The new contract provides significant wage increases that catches them up after losing so much due to the sharp increase in the cost of living over the last contract term. This is a good contract for the next five years.”
Production and maintenance employees of 1811965 Ontario Inc. are engaged in the fabrication of iron, steel, and metal products or in maintenance work at the company’s shops located in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent in southwestern Ontario.
