Wednesday, March 6, 2024 Eden Villa Employees Secure Annual Wage Increases, Other Improvements with New Contract Locals Local 303 Ratifications Sectors Healthcare Chatham, ON—Employees of Eden Villa Retirement and Assisted Living in Chatham, Ontario, voted 78 percent in favour of ratifying a three-year collective agreement providing them with annual wage increases and many other improvements. The employees are represented by Southwestern Ontario Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 303. The union has represented them since 2010. The new contract provides wage increases of five percent in the first year followed by three percent in year two and two percent in year three. The number of hours required to reach the top of the wage grid was also decreased. In addition, the agreement provides a shift-premium increase from 15 to 30 cents per hour, the introduction of a 15-cent-per-hour weekend premium, and an increase to the uniform allowance. Other improvements were made to vacation time, contract language regarding overtime, master schedules, and sick pay. “A very positive working relationship has led to productive bargaining and notable improvements to our members’ compensation at Eden Villa,” says Ryan Griffioen, CLAC representative. “We hope these increases will go a long way to attract and retain good staff and ultimately improve the working environment.” Eden Villa employs 20 Local 303 members working as RPNs, PSWs, cooks, dietary aides, and housekeeping staff.
