Monday, December 14, 2020 Ecotex Workers Receive Pandemic Pay CLAC lobbied BC government for months to win top-up for laundry service workers Locals Local 501 News Newsletters BC Local 501 After months of lobbying the British Columbia government and local MLAs, all CLAC members working at Ecotex Linen Services finally received pandemic pay last December. This is a well-deserved boost for these Local 501 members. They have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to ensure that laundry from COVID-19 patients is being cleaned and redistributed. Ecotex workers were originally told that only members working at hospitals would receive pandemic pay. CLAC challenged this and persistently advocated for all members to receive the top-up. “This news couldn’t have come at a better time for these members as they are on the lower scale of wage earners and could really use these funds for the holidays,” said Aleasha Wegner, representative.
