DeFran Electric Employees Secure Substantial Wage Increases with New Contract
Etobicoke, ON—Local 52 members employed by DeFran Electric Inc. unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with substantial increases to their wages plus other improvements.
The new contract provides members with a $9.50 per hour wage increase (24 percent), including $6 per hour in the first year. The total package increase of the settlement is $12.33 per hour (25.5 percent). In addition, employer contributions to members’ pension plan increased by two percent. Other improvements include increased vision coverage to $600; the extension of benefits coverage to apprentices during trade school; increases to the boot, tool, and clothing allowances; and the introduction of three paid sick days.

The members clearly articulated their priorities, and the union bargaining committee stood firm and secured significant wage and pension increases, which will positively improve the lives of our members and their families.”
