Tuesday, November 30, 2021 DeFran Electric Employees Ratify First Contract Locals Local 52 Ratifications Sectors Construction Etobicoke, ON—Employees of DeFran Electric Inc. ratified their first collective agreement providing them with wage increases, the introduction of employer-paid pension, and employer-paid benefits. The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 52. The union has represented the employees since January 2021. With the three-year agreement, employees will also enjoy access to the union’s training program and improved vacation pay. “The bargaining process was lengthy in part because of the COVID pandemic and also because the parties were trying to find the right settlement to meet their interests,” says J. D. Alkema, CLAC regional director. “A lot of time and effort went into this process, and ultimately we were able to negotiate an agreement that will work for all those involved, but especially for the members of the bargaining unit.” DeFran Electric is an electrical contractor based in Etobicoke working in the greater Toronto area. It provides services in the industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors.
