Dean-Lane Employees Ratify New Contract Providing Significant Wage Gains

Kitchener, ON—The 45 sheet metal workers and refrigeration mechanics employed by Dean-Lane Contractors Inc. ratified a new three-year collective agreement with 97 percent voting in favour.

The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. The union has represented them since 2015.

The new contract provides employees of the Kitchener-based contractor with wage increases totalling 12 to 15 percent over the term. In addition, employer contributions to the employees’ pension plan will increase by 4 percent to a total of 13 percent over the term. Employees’ boot allowance will increase from $200 to $300 per year, and orthodontic care was added to their benefits plan.

“This is an excellent agreement for the membership,” says James Koopman, CLAC regional director for the Cambridge-Kitchener-Waterloo region. “The union bargaining committee did a great job identifying the needs of their fellow members, as evidenced by the near unanimous vote in support of the new contract.”
