Monday, August 31, 2020 Considerations for the City of Vaughan’s Fair Wage Policy and Schedule More clarity needed on how to account for vacation and public holiday pay Policy Briefs In a recent submission to the City of Vaughan Council, CLAC provided a series of considerations regarding the proposed Fair Wage Policy and Schedule, which will be drafted and presented to the Council this fall. In its submission, CLAC reiterated its support of the city’s Fair Wage Policy and applauded Council’s understanding that prevailing wage is not the same as the provincial Building Trades Unions rates. CLAC also agreed that the proposed Fair Wage Schedule should be based on total compensation, not just the direct wage. Clarity was requested concerning how to account for vacation and public holiday pay under the policy. CLAC further recommended that contributions to union training and industry funds be part of the benefit allowance. We invite you to read the full submission below.
