Compass Hydrovac Employees Unanimously Ratify First Collective Agreement

Oakville, ON—Local 52 members employed by Compass Hydrovac, based in Oakville, Ontario, unanimously ratified their first collective agreement.

The three-year contract introduces a competitive wage grid that the members are happy with and will help the employer secure work and expand the business. Members will be enrolled in the CLAC Pension Plan with 10 percent employer contributions and the CLAC benefits plan. In addition, the agreement provides a $250 boot and clothing allowance, a $350 allowance for prescription safety glasses, a 15 percent shift premium, and a 12 percent foreperson premium. Members will be paid their hourly rate for travel time to and from a project.

“Introducing a new collective agreement has provided security for the new members and their families and has created opportunities for growth for the employer,” says Randy Parris, representative. “The members felt a sense of ownership because they were involved in the bargaining process and unanimously voted in favour of the agreement.”
