Wednesday, March 1, 2017 Communitas Cares Guide Magazine Locals Local 501 Sectors Healthcare March is Community Social Services Awareness Month in British Columbia. It’s a month that gives us an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the vital role that the workers in this sector play in our lives and in building safe, healthy, and caring communities. Since 2003, Local 501 members employed by Communitas Supportive Care have supported children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities. They make it possible for these individuals to fully participate in their communities through housing, employment support, recreation, and community engagement. At CLAC, we want to recognize the vital work done by our members at Communitas and at the other workplaces in this sector that we represent, as well as all frontline workers involved in this work. They serve some of the most vulnerable people in our society. The dedication and care they show reflects the values and principles we hold most dear—respect, dignity, fairness, and a commitment to building better workplaces, better communities, and better lives. This month, we honour you—our members who give so willingly and enthusiastically to the individuals you support. You make a positive difference every day, and we are proud to represent you as your union.
