CLAC Urges Ontario Government to Support Its Healthcare Heroes

The union provided five recommendations to help strengthen the province's overburdened healthcare sector

On October 16, CLAC submitted a set of five recommendations to the Ontario government ahead of its 2021 budget. The recommendations focussed on ways to improve the current state of healthcare in the province, with the intent to create a more stable, impartial, and stronger sector for workers and patients alike.

1.      Expand Workplace Safety and Insurance Board coverage to include workers in retirement homes, residential care facilities, and group homes.

2.      Revise Bill 124 so that healthcare workers are exempt.

3.      Make the wage adjustments for PSWs permanent and expand to all front-line healthcare workers in long term care, the homecare sector, and community living facilities.

4.      Maintain pandemic pay for all healthcare workers while emergency orders are in place.

5.      Make a substantive commitment to a better standard of care in the long term care sector.
