Friday, December 13, 2019 CLAC Training Director Appointed to Prevention Council of the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development The Council Advises the Minister of Labour and the Chief Prevention Officer on Occupational Health and Safety Issues News Colin deRaaf, Director of Training for CLAC in Ontario, has been appointed to the Prevention Council of the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development. The council advises the minister of labour and the chief prevention officer on occupational health and safety (OHS) issues, including preventing workplace illnesses and injuries, developing the provincial OHS strategy, and any significant changes to funding or delivery of services under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The council is comprised of representatives from unions and labour organizations, non-union workers, employers, the WSIB, and people with experience in occupational health and safety. Colin has been working to improve workplace safety for many years. He has directed the development of CLAC’s skills and safety training programs in Ontario since 2009, reaching thousands of workers in a variety of sectors. Colin is the co-chair of the CLAC Sector Health and Safety Labour-Management Committee and is a regular advisor for various community-based groups, focusing on providing health and safety awareness, instruction, and resources to secondary and post-secondary students, indigenous communities, new Canadians, at-risk youth, and apprenticeship groups.
