CLAC National Convention 2017

Local 306's resolutions

This year at CLAC’s National Convention, Local 306 will bring forward two resolutions for debate and approval. The delegates from across Canada will give their input and either approve or reject the resolutions.

If approved, these resolutions will be submitted to government, with the full force of Canada’s national membership behind them.

Health and safety — This resolution asks government to introduce yearly mandatory training for all employees working for an employer where a variance is in place allowing several work locations to report to one workplace, safety, and health committee. This  training would focus on the right to refuse unsafe work and the proper procedures for doing so. Local 306 represents roughly 500 members who work in schools where this is the case.

Funding for support services for adults living with disabilities — In Manitoba, organizations providing services to adults living with disabilities are dependent on funding from the provincial government. The low level of funding limits employers from paying high-enough wages to their employees. CLAC represents day program employees at enVision, and this resolution calls on the province of Manitoba to increase funding for wages.
