Wednesday, November 8, 2017 CLAC Celebrates Members’ Achievements on Parliament Hill News Ottawa—Representatives from CLAC and the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) met with MPs in Ottawa yesterday to raise further awareness regarding the many benefits of the progressive labour model, and to celebrate the achievements of CLAC members, as part of a “Hard Hats on the Hill” government engagement day. “Fair and open tendering, as well as open managed sites, are hallmarks of the progressive labour model,” says Wayne Prins, CLAC executive director. “The model ensures that our economy remains accessible to everyone, maximizing the full potential of Canada’s skilled workforce.” CLAC and PCA have successfully completed public and private construction projects across Canada at a combined value of over $100 billion, while supporting labour inclusiveness and career advancement for workers in skilled trades. “One of our primary goals is to remove barriers to learning,” says Prins. “We need to equip Canadians with the skills required to advance their careers on site and beyond. We need to invest in infrastructure, but we also need to invest in workers.” David Prentice, CLAC BC director, cites the innovative training-to-employment program launched with members of the Saulteau First Nations in the Treaty 8 Territory as a recent example of progressive labour partnerships at work. “Students were able to utilize CLAC’s virtual classroom training system to complete Level 1 of the Construction Craft Worker,” says Prentice. “On graduation, they applied their skills on the Site C Clean Energy Project—the largest public infrastructure project in the history of BC. When industry and labour partner with government and local communities, we can have a profound impact on the lives of workers. We are proud of the legacy we are building with our members under the progressive labour model.” Previous Next You might be interested in Strathcona Mechanical Workers Approve New Agreement with Wage and Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026 Ready To Deliver 3 Jun 2026 The Miracle of Many Hands 2 Jun 2026 Velocity Mechanical Workers Secure New Contract with Wage and Benefit Improvements 1 Jun 2026
