Tuesday, October 20, 2026 CLAC Applauds Albertans' Vote for a Stronger Future Within Canada News EDMONTON—Monday’s referendum result shows that Albertans have chosen engagement over division and collaboration over separation, even as serious concerns about federal policies, energy development, jobs, and provincial autonomy remain unresolved. As a Canadian union representing thousands of Albertans across a wide range of sectors, CLAC understands both the deep frustrations driving western alienation and the enduring commitment many Albertans have to building a stronger future within a united Canada. For our members, Alberta’s future must be built on good jobs, robust wages, safe workplaces, strong public services, responsible investment, and long-term economic stability. Monday's result does not erase the concerns that brought the province to this moment. It challenges governments, employers, labour, and communities to address those concerns constructively and ensure that working Albertans have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their lives. CLAC is committed to doing that work and to building a stronger Alberta within a stronger Canada.
