Saturday, October 8, 2022 Chasing the Checkered Flag Caroline Kelly: refrigeration mechanic during the week; stock car racer on the weekend Locals Local 53 Newsletters Ontario Construction Local 53 member Caroline Kelly, a fifth-year refrigeration mechanic apprentice and steward employed by Dean-Lane Contractors, is currently a working foreperson on the Albert Street Waterloo apartments under construction. She’s also stock car driver in the Pure Stock division at Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove. Pure stock consists of 1984 and newer front-wheel drive stock three- and four-cylinder cars. They can be two-door, four-door, hatchback, or wagon styles. Most Saturday nights, Caroline is racing number 79, a green and black 2002 Honda civic—a car she customized herself. She has been racing in the Pure Stock division for 10 years. Before that, she raced go-karts for eight years. The season continued into the fall and wrapped up on Saturday, October 2.
