Chandos Construction Employees Secure Strong Gains with New Three-Year Contract

MISSISSAUGA, ON—Local 52 members employed by Chandos Construction Ltd. unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with significant improvements to their current contract.

The 19 members work primarily in the Greater Toronto, Ottawa, and Kingston areas.

The new contract provides them with a total wage and benefits package increase of up to 13.6 percent over the term, along with several improvements to allowances and benefits. These include a lump-sum boot allowance of $375 per year, increased travel allowance to the Canada Revenue Agency maximum per kilometre rate, and improved vision-care coverage.

“Through adversity and less-than-ideal circumstances, the group of members at Chandos were able to bind together and align their interests,” says Randy Parris, CLAC representative. “The union bargaining committee addressed those interests and secured significant wage increases. The members felt heard and valued and thus voted unanimously in favour of the excellent settlement achieved during negotiations.”
