The 30 members voted 80 percent in favour of the new contract, which provides them with up to 12 percent in total package increases over the term. Along with wage increases, the total package includes a 1 percent increase to employer contributions to retirement savings, improved dental coverage, and an increase of up to $200 per year in the boot and tool allowance. The agreement also includes the addition of a home-based travel zone and an increase to the out-of-town meal allowance to $70. “The union bargaining committee recognized the challenges of negotiating an agreement in today’s economic climate but ensured that members’ financial goals were met,” says Randy Parris, CLAC representative. “We had challenging yet productive bargaining sessions that ultimately resulted in an agreement that matched a majority of members’ priorities, while remaining competitive in the construction industry.” Chandos is a general contractor based in Mississauga providing services in the GTA and surrounding areas.
