Celebrating You this Labour Day

Happy Labour Day to all of our members!

Thank you to our members who make a difference every day and prove that there's great value in work.

It’s been a challenging year-and-a-half for Canadian workers, and we are proud to represent some of the hardest-working Canadians out there.

Healthcare members have been on the front lines of the pandemic while gowned, goggled, and masked. We’ve fought to have your contributions recognized through higher wages, proper workers compensation insurance, and funding for more hands-on care.

Retail, warehouse, and transportation members worked hard to ensure that Canadians had access to food and essential supplies, while often dealing with cranky customers. We advocated for your safety and improved wages during the pandemic.

Airport screeners and security members continued to ensure the safety of the public amidst increased screening protocols. We fought to ensure you had access to the PPE you needed to stay safe.

Education members faced the challenges of online learning, layoffs, and wage freezes. We advocated for your wages and job security.

Manufacturing members had to adjust to working different shifts to limit the spread of COVID-19 and faced the threat of closure if an outbreak occurred. We advocated for your safety and security.

Construction members kept building the infrastructure needed to grow Canada while masking and maintaining six-foot distancing. We worked to provide the training you needed to stay safe and certified by expanding our online offerings, and worked to find jobs for those laid off.

Many members faced increased hours and pressures, while some of you struggled with reduced hours and layoffs. To support all of our members throughout these times, we ensured that our employee and family assistance program was available to everyone last year during the height of pandemic—whether they have benefits or not. We’ve also expanded our mental health first aid training and added new wellness and substance abuse resources in myCLAC.ca.

We’re proud of the work you and your fellow members do. You care for the most vulnerable in our society. You build our cities, industry, and roads. You keep us safe in times of emergency. You keep our goods moving across the nation. You put a smile on the faces of your customers. And so much more.

We hope that on this Labour Day you reflect with pride on your work and the things it allows you to do—both on and off the clock.

Happy Labour Day!
