Building Communities Is Back!

Twice per year, CLAC awards donations of $1,000, $1,500, or $2,500 to local causes nominated by members. All causes and amounts are selected at random from qualified nominations.

Due to the pandemic, CLAC suspended its Building Communities program for 2020 to focus efforts on helping members. The program has resumed for 2021, and members can submit nominations for the first draw, to be held in June. Nominations are due May 15.

Two causes nominated by Local 306 members each won a donation during draws held in December 2019.

Niverville Youth for Christ, nominated by Kenzie Prudhomme, an educational assistant employed by Hanover School Division, received a $1,500 donation. “YFC Niverville is a youth drop-in centre for the community,” says Kenzie. “It’s a nonprofit organization that provides a safe, welcoming space to help young people attain their full life potential. It offers innovation and excellence in positive youth development and provides services such as counselling, young parent programs, skate ministries, and sports programs. These programs and services are run entirely with the help of volunteers.”

Steinbach Community Outreach, nominated by Beverly Wiebe, an assistant head custodian employed by Hanover School Division, received a $2,500 donation. “I have had the pleasure of volunteering at this organization,” says Beverly. “Steinbach Community Outreach is a place where people find clothing, basic necessities, food, and most of all, help and guidance wherever they are at in life. It serves the homeless and less fortunate in the community and also helps connect clients with other people and organizations in the community to meet their particular needs.”
