Sunday, August 14, 2022 Big Goodbyes Newsletters Manitoba Local 306 We can’t acknowledge all of the long term members who leave their jobs, but here are three who we want to recognize. Carla Burkert – Carla, an educational assistant at Hanover School Division, has stepped away from her role as CLAC steward after 16 years in that role. Her leadership as a steward is appreciated and will be missed. Carla still serves on the bargaining committee and as president of Local 306 Board but wanted to leave space for new employees to fill the steward role. Irma Friesen – Irma has retired as an educational assistant at Hanover School Division. During her time as an EA, she helped unionize her workplace and served as a steward, bargaining committee member, Local 306 Board member, and CLAC National Board member. Raymond Roy – Ray was head custodian at Hanover School Division and a steward from 2009 to 2022. Learning to read at the age of 40, Ray was always eager to learn in his role as steward, serving his coworkers enthusiastically. He may also have won several informal awards as best dancer at the annual stewards conferences.
