Wednesday, November 4, 2020 Besterd Mechanical Employees Secure Wage Increases, Benefits Improvements with New Contract Locals Local 53 Ratifications Sectors Construction London, ON—Contract renewal has been secured for the 12 sheet metal division employees of London-based Besterd Mechanical, with 92 percent of employees voting in favour of the settlement negotiated by their union, Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. New terms take effect on November 1, 2020. In the three-year settlement, journeypersons will see a 9.9 percent total increase over the life of the contract. Along with annual wage improvements, employees will receive increased employer contributions to the pension plan and vacation pay. Funding improvement for healthcare benefits was also secured, with increased vision coverage.
