Because CLAC believes in freedom of association, we allow you to choose whether or not to sign a union membership card. Whether you sign a card or not, we will fully represent you in your workplace. CLAC offers more than just the protections and benefits outlined in your collective agreement. When you sign a CLAC membership card, you can receive discounts, scholarships, awards, opportunities to serve as a leader in your workplace, and more. Scholarships for You and Your Family – Every year, CLAC provides a number of $1,500 scholarships to CLAC members and their spouse, children, and grandchildren who are enrolled in an accredited postsecondary institution in Canada. The Matthew Manuel Branch of Hope Award – This award is given annually to CLAC members, their spouse, children, or grandchildren who have completed a drug or alcohol treatment program, is cleared for work, and demonstrates a solid commitment to recovery and helping others who face similar challenges. Donations for Your Community – Is there a cause in your community that inspires you? That makes a difference in the lives of others? Nominate it for a donation from CLAC’s Building Communities program. Twice per year, we select up to 15 causes at random from eligible nominations to receive a donation of up to $2,500. Be a Leader – As a CLAC member, you can serve as a workplace leader in roles such as steward, bargaining committee member, local board member, or National board member. Help for You in Times of Loss – Receive financial assistance from our bereavement benefit fund in the difficult days following the death of a loved one.
