The new contract provides a two percent increase in employer contributions to the employees’ pension plan to seven percent, rising to nine percent after five years’ service. Improvements were also made to the employees’ health benefits plan, including increases to vision care coverage and extended healthcare coverage. Employer contributions to the union’s Education and Industry Fund and Construction Industry Fund were also increased. “The union bargaining committee strategically presented the priorities of the membership,” says Randy Parris, CLAC representative. “We had challenging yet productive bargaining sessions with the employer that ultimately resulted in an agreement that matched a majority of our members’ priorities.” Beckett Electrical Inc. is a full-service electrical firm specializing in ICI construction services in the Greater Toronto Area.
