Auto-Motion Shade Employees Secure Wage and Other Improvements with New Contract

Scarborough, ON—Employees of Auto-Motion Shade voted unanimously to ratify a new three-year collective agreement providing them with significant improvements to their wages and benefits.

The 35 employees at the company’s facility in Scarborough have been represented by CLAC since February 2005.

The new contract provides employees with an immediate $1 per hour wage increase followed by a further $1.10 over the life of the agreement. The renewed agreement also includes a 48 percent increase to the members’ health spending account along with breakthrough language that obligates the employer to provide additional annual wage adjustments in the event the percentage of increase to the minimum wage is greater than the percentage awarded under the renewed contract.

“The union bargaining committee understood the needs of their fellow members and successfully negotiated a strong agreement,” says Kevin Gates, CLAC representative. “Employees were especially pleased with the increase to their health spending account and wage increases of 12.6 percent over the term of the agreement, which resulted in unanimous support by the membership for the new contract.”

Auto-Motion Shade Inc. manufactures manual and motorized roll-up sun visors and sun protection shades for RVs, trucks, coaches, buses, locomotives, and agricultural and construction equipment.
