Annual Wage Increases Secured for Pomerleau Employees with New Contract
Vancouver—Local 68 members employed by Pomerleau Inc. voted 73 percent in favour of ratifying a three-year collective agreement providing them with annual wage increases and other improvements.
The new contract provides wage increases of 3.7 percent in the first year and 3 percent in each of the following two years of the term. Employer contributions to members’ RSP increased by one percent to 5 percent total and their pension plan by 0.5 percent, bringing the total to 4 percent. Short term disability qualification moves from 14 days to 7.
“We’re pleased with the result of bargaining and the strong support from the membership for the negotiated settlement,” says Chas Herrod, representative. “Bargaining was a dynamic, collaborative effort by all involved.”
Pomerleau is located in Vancouver and Victoria. Recent work includes at the Esquimalt Naval Base, Annacis Island wastewater treatment plant, Granville St. bridge, Alouette Surge Tower, Colquitz bridge, Woodfibre LNG, and Capilano water main project. The company employs over 70 Local 68 members, primarily carpenters, labourers, and heavy equipment operators. The local has represented the company’s employees since 2004.
