Thursday, May 29, 2025 Anchor Hydro Employees Secure Significant Wage Gains with New Contract Local 53 Ratifications Construction COTTAM, ON—Employees of Anchor Hydro, an electrical contractor based in Cottam, Ontario, voted 70 percent in favour of ratifying a three-year collective agreement providing them with significant wage gains. The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. The union has represented the company’s employees since 2015. The new contract provides employees with a 19 percent wage increase over the term. Other improvements include an increase to vision-care and life insurance coverage, a 15 percent increase to the foreperson two rate, and increases to the tool allowance and travel pay. “It’s been an incredible time to bargain wage increases in a postinflationary economy,” says Alex Kuiper, CLAC representative. “Fortunately, the employer came to the table with a fair settlement offer, which the members recognized as a win. This is what a cooperative approach to labour relations does in these difficult situations; it allows everyone to win.” Anchor Hydro employees work as electricians, electrician apprentices, equipment operators, and labourers at many locations throughout the Leamington and Windsor regions.
