Ambrose University Faculty Ratify First Collective Agreement with Wage and Workplace Improvements

CALGARY, AB—Faculty members at Ambrose University ratified their first collective agreement, establishing wage increases and significant workplace protections.

The employees are represented by the Association of School and College Employees, CLAC Local 601. The union has represented the university’s employees since August 2025.

The agreement runs from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2028, and includes salary increases of 2.5 percent in 2026 (retroactive to January 1), two percent in 2027, and one percent in 2028, in addition to annual step increases. The agreement also includes a commitment to review lower salary grid steps to support retention and recruitment, and increases sabbatical remuneration to 100 percent.

Additional improvements include codified tenure and promotion processes, protections for intellectual property rights and faculty file access, and strengthened provisions around workload expectations and above load compensation. The agreement also establishes clear standards for workforce reductions and program closures, as well as enhanced access to professional and legal representation in disciplinary matters.

“This first agreement lays a strong foundation for faculty and recognizes the important role they play in the university community,” says Ben Timmermans, CLAC representative. “It provides meaningful wage increases alongside clear, fair processes that support members in their academic work and long-term careers.”

Ambrose University is a private Christian university in Calgary offering undergraduate and graduate programs in arts, science, education, and theology.
