Allandale Station Retirement Residence Employees Unanimously Ratify First Contract

Barrie, ON—Employees of Allandale Station Retirement Residence in Barrie, Ontario, unanimously ratified their first collective agreement.

The employees are represented by Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 304.

Highlights of the new contract include many monetary improvements including shift premiums and doubling of sick banks, as well as the banking of vacation money for full-time and part-time workers and some control over scheduling provisions.

“We were very pleased to secure the receptionists into the bargaining unit,” says Ruth Ann Ferguson, CLAC representative. “This was something that had been a struggle in the organizing campaign, and they are very happy with this outcome.”

“The door is open for the next round of bargaining to make further improvements,” says Lisa Mercer, bargaining committee member. “We are already looking forward to 2025 to get back to work on those improvements.”
