Saturday, November 22, 2025 A Boost for PSWs A new federal tax credit provides extra financial support for PSWs across Canada Ontario Healthcare Healthcare By Shawn Branton, Representative, Grimsby Member Centre Every day, PSWs make life safer, better, and more dignified for the people they care for. Now, there’s more reason to feel appreciated—thanks to a new federal PSW tax credit that recognizes and rewards the essential work PSWs do in long term care, homecare, and community settings across Canada. The PSW tax credit provides up to $1,100 per year for eligible earnings from 2026 through 2030. That means you can claim the credit when filing your taxes from 2027 to 2031. For most PSWs, this amount represents about five percent of annual earnings—a meaningful boost that can help with everyday costs like groceries, rent, or other necessities. Employers will also have a role in confirming eligible earnings, ensuring that workers receive the full benefit they’ve earned. For full details about the program, visit the federal government’s official page: Tax measures: Supplementary information | Budget 2025. This new tax credit is a welcome acknowledgment of the vital contributions PSWs make every day—and a step toward greater recognition and financial support for those who care for others.
