CLAC Presses Opposition MPPs on Fairness for Construction Workers
On November 8, CLAC staff members met with key opposition MPPs, including the Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Brown.
CLAC was able to deepen Brown’s understanding of the impact of closed tendering on workers, contractors, and municipalities.
CLAC continues to press this issue at Queen’s Park, where it met with Labour Minister Kevin Flynn on November 23, along with representatives of the Greater Essex School Board, which just recently sustained a lengthy and costly legal proceeding to demonstrate that they are a non-construction employer and thus cannot be bound to the closed tendering practices of the building trades collective agreements. While the school board won its case, it came at great expense, and the board is still at risk every day of being unionized by building trades unions again.
