Tuesday, February 20, 2024 Thank You and Cheers, Dennis! In 2006, when Local 501 took over the bargaining rights for members at what was then GM Place (now Rogers Arena) from a different union, one of the main proponents of the switch was Dennis Watt Newsletters BC Local 501 Since that time, Dennis has served his fellow employees at the arena as a steward. He has also served on the Local 501 Board as vice-president and president. Dennis started at the arena as a host when it first opened, so he’s definitely one of the originals. Over the years, he has seen it all, from dealing with grievances at the arena and appeals through the local board, to fights in the arena stands, to meeting rock legends Robert Plant and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. Dennis’s work with bargaining committees and his help with negotiating contracts for his arena colleagues was a massive help to every CLAC representative who he has worked with. Dennis and his wife, Virginia, always hosted fellow stewards at conferences for snacks and beverages and a whole lot of laughs. While Dennis still works at the arena, he has now decided to step back from his steward role and local board presidency to pass the torch to others. Dennis, from everyone at CLAC and especially those at the Langley Member Centre, thank you and cheers!
