Mental Health First Aid  | Online & Distance Learning

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis.

Course participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

  • Talk about declines in their mental well-being
  • Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being
  • Reach out to these supports
  • Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis
  • Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being

The course is divided into three modules – for each module a participant must have access to their own PC or laptop, please let us know if you have questions about this.

Module 1: Online (2 hours)

You will receive a link to the online course 2 weeks prior to your distance learning date. You can complete it at any time but it must be prior to the start of your distance learning classroom modules

  • Introduction to the course
  • Introduction to MHFA actions

Module 2: Distance Learning Classroom Day 1 (3 hours)

  • Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-being
  • Guidelines for MHFA conversations with people from diverse cultures and members of the LGBTQ+ community

Module 3: Distance Learning Classroom Day 2 (3 hours)

  • Discussion on using MHFA actions for self-care
  • Practice using MHFA actions in crisis situations

Duration/Format: 8-hour blended model consisting of:

  • One, 2-hour, self-directed online module (Module 1)
  • Two, 2-hour, virtual classroom modules (Modules 2 & 3)

Non-Member/Public Cost: $250
