Audiometric Testing | Company On-site
Audiometric testing is now offered on-site for companies through Assure Occupational Testing Inc.
Companies required to implement a Noise Management Program on their work sites can quickly and easily have their employees tested on-site with Assure’s mobile testing trailer.
What is Audiometric Testing?
Companies operating in environments with excessive noise (above 82 dBA) must implement Noise Management Programs to safeguard employees from potential hearing loss incurred while working on-site per Alberta OHS Act, regulation and code.
Workers are provided with initial and follow-up testing to determine if hearing loss has occurred due to occupational hazards.
Stages of Audiometric Testing
Initial
Within 6 months of hiring an employee, the initial audiometric test must be completed to determine the employee’s baseline hearing reading.
Periodic
1 year after the initial audiometric test, a periodic test must be completed to determine if hearing loss has occurred.
Periodic testing after the 1-year test can be completed every two years to assess hearing loss in the employee.
Re-testing
Abnormal results from periodic testing will result in the need for a re-test. Abnormal results can be the result of any of the following:
- Allergy symptoms
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Plugged ears with excessive ear wax
- Exposure to noise within the last 14 hours
Reviews of abnormal results are conducted by Assure’s Physician to determine if hearing loss has occurred or caused by other factors.
Please note, there will be a full charge for the re-testing fee.
