New Contract Brings Better Wages to CLAC Workers at WorleyCord Energy Solutions

Fort McMurray, AB—CLAC Local 63 members employed by WorleyCord Energy Solutions (Construction) have ratified a new collective agreement that includes an immediate eight-percent increase to their base pay.

The 330 scaffolders and electricians work at more than 10 different locations between Blackfalds and the Fort McMurray region. They will receive another two-percent increase as of Jan. 1, 2023.  Wages will be reviewed again in October 2023.

These increases are significant in meeting industry standards where the current labour demand is extremely high. They also address the significant cost-of-living increases that inflation has dealt. The agreement was ratified by a 58-percent margin in a vote that saw 96 percent of the members cast ballots.

The agreement also secured clearer language on matters pertaining to work hours and statutory holidays.

“Our bargaining committee did an exceptional job with this round of bargaining,” said Izzy Huygen, CLAC’s Alberta Construction Coordinator. “It was particularly challenging with a diverse range of projects and regional variances. Their patience and perseverance were notable and helped get us to a settlement and ultimately the ratification.”
