Ontario Local Board Reports
The board most recently met on March 6, 2019. Board members discussed finances, possible charitable involvement, and the upcoming annual general meeting (AGM). The board requests that the Local 6 membership help put forward possible candidates for upcoming board elections. The elections will be held at the AGM on June 10, 2019, at the Century Pines golf course in Flamborough. Please feel free to contact a board member or your representative to discuss any possible candidates.
Local 6 has had numerous renewals of collective agreements for this quarter. In the residential sector, Losani homes ratified a new agreement, and Brant Concrete ratified their first collective agreement. We are hopeful that a few organizing opportunities will also lead to some new members this year.
The board met on December 13, 2018, and March 21, 2019. Local staff reported on organizing new groups, including Pro-Armature. Currently, local staff are working on eleven rounds of negotiations, of which seven are renewals and four are first collective agreements. Settlements have been achieved for five groups of employees in the local, including City Electric, Pro-Armature, Wallwin Electric, Royal Ready Construction, and JAC Mechanical. This meeting was preceded by the Local 52 annual general meeting, where Danny Crowe and Jason Graham were acclaimed to serve on the board.
The board met on January 17, 2019, for its first quarter regular meeting. At the time of printing, Local 53 representatives are working on nine rounds of negotiations, all of which are renewals of current collective agreements. Settlements have been achieved by local staff for three groups of employees. They include Looby Construction, Dean-Lane Contractors, and Fortress Concrete Forming. The board is seeking nominations for members to serve as new board members. If interested, please contact Roger Grootenboer, representative, at 519-365-4788 or email@example.com for more information.
