McCarron Employees Secure Over 18 Percent Total Increase

Wallaceburg, ON—Local 53 members employed by McCarron Plumbing and Heating Ltd. have voted unanimously to accept the terms of a new collective agreement. The contract was negotiated by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53.

The five-year agreement secures three percent increases to wage rates annually. In addition, employees secured advances in healthcare benefits with improved long term disability coverage and vision coverage. Employer-paid pension contributions are scheduled to improve over the life of the contract by a total of $1.25 per hour. In all, the new contract provides an 18.4 percent total value increase for plumbing journeymen over the five-year term.

“This settlement provides well for our members and their families,” says Roger Grootenboer, CLAC Local 53 representative. “I am pleased that our members at McCarron earn a deserved fair income and in addition enjoy solid health, retirement, and training benefits through CLAC.”
