25 Years of Learning
CLAC Training in Alberta celebrates its quarter-century milestone
It’s back to school time! Not only are our children finally getting back to in-class learning, CLAC member centres across the country are ready to provide the skills and training members need, whether online or in person. Many courses are available to you, from health and safety to stewards Toolbox training to mental health first aid. Go to clac.ca/training to find courses near you and to register.
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the start of the union’s training initiatives, which began in Alberta in 1996. Since then, CLAC Training in Alberta has greatly expanded. CLAC is one of the leading trainers in the province for welders and scaffolders.
Despite the pandemic lockdowns, CLAC member centres continued to provide training throughout 2020 and into 2021, helping to keep members safe and certified. Overall, the number of members receiving training actually rose in 2020—despite the restrictions created by the pandemic—with 49,369 registered learners compared to 47,341 in 2019. The first quarter of 2021 has already seen 16,810 registered learners. To the right are some training numbers from across the country, and below is a special look back over the last 25 years to where it all began in Alberta.
