CLAC Sponsors Prison Training Program
One demographic that has benefitted from the partnership between CLAC and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is the inmates of Kamloops Regional Correction Centre (KRCC) who are taking part in a CLAC-sponsored training program. Through the program, CLAC Training has partnered with TRU in sponsoring cohorts of low-risk inmates who graduate the program with a first-year Construction Craft Worker designation.
Typically, some very experienced, very capable, inmates graduate alongside a few that struggle with completion. But challenges continue in facilitating employment for these graduates. Ideally, they need to be set up at a camp job as soon as they are released from KRCC.
CLAC aims to reinforce these students’ accomplishments and provide support to help them thrive when released. Learners are preselected for employment based on their likeliness to succeed, and CLAC encourages employers to maintain discretion concerning the students’ backgrounds. This program is closely aligned with CLAC’s core values of respect, dignity, and fairness, and we look forward to continuing this partnership with TRU and the KRCC.
