Skyway Employees Secure Modest Wage Gains, Maintain Benefits with New Contract
Edmonton—Employees of Skyway Canada Limited overwhelmingly ratified a new two-year collective agreement providing them with modest wage gains while protecting their current health benefits plan. The contract was ratified with 96 percent voting in favour.
The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 63. The union has represented the employees since 2003.
The new contract provides employees with a 1.2 percent wage increase while maintaining their fully employer-paid health and welfare benefits plan. The agreement also maintains the current level of employer contributions to both the pension plan and group RSP and includes an increase to bereavement pay.
The approximately 100 union members employed by Skyway work as scaffolders and insulators. The company provides scaffolding, insulation, swing stage and shoring, engineering, design, and erection and dismantling services. Recent projects have included work in Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, and Foster Creek.
