Privacy Promise

While information is the cornerstone of our ability to provide superior service to members, our most important asset is our members' trust. Keeping information secure, and using it only as our members would want us to, is a top priority for all of us at CLAC. The following is our promise to CLAC members:

1. We will safeguard, according to strict standards of security and confidentiality, any information our members share with us.
2. We will limit the collection and use of member information to the minimum extent required to deliver superior service, which includes informing our members about meetings, union activities, and training. Special and more detailed information is required for the administration of pension and retirement benefits, insurance coverage, and other benefit plans.
3. Each staff member’s access to confidential information is limited to that required to provide member services. Staff members who violate our privacy promise will be subject to discipline.
4. We will not reveal member information to any external organization unless required by law. However, benefit administration staff may reveal certain member information to insurance providers when insurance claims are processed and to certain financial institutions when pension/retirement benefits need to be determined.
5. We will not use or share—internally or externally—personal medical information for any purpose other than the administration of a member’s policy, claim, or account or as disclosed to the member when the information is collected or to which the member consents.
6. We will attempt to keep member files complete, up-to-date, and accurate. Members may contact their regional CLAC and/or benefit administration offices to inquire about their personal information (except where prohibited by law) and to notify us about errors, which we will correct promptly.

We will continuously monitor ourselves to ensure that our members’ privacy is respected. We will conduct our business in a manner that fulfills this promise.
