Sault Ste. Marie, ON—In a vote conducted by the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) yesterday, employees of Topline Electric Limited chose Construction Workers Local 52 over the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) by a margin of sixteen to two.
Local 52 was certified by the OLRB to represent Topline employees in June 2010. A collective agreement settlement was reached between the employer and union in September 2010, which was subsequently ratified unanimously by the members. The representation vote was conducted as a resolution to resolve outstanding issues resulting from the certification and challenges put forth by IBEW.
“We are pleased with the overwhelming support shown to us by our members at Topline,” says J. D. Alkema, CLAC Ontario representative. “It’s confirmation that the members appreciate the quality of the representation we provide. We look forward to a long and productive relationship with Topline employees.”
