Steinbach, MB—Luke Reimer, Sheldon Hamp, and Holly Dersen-Sobering have each won a $1,500 scholarship from the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC).
CLAC awards twelve $1,500 scholarships annually to members, their spouses, children, and grandchildren from across the country who are enrolled in university, college, or technical school.
Luke is the son of Susana Reimer, an educational assistant (EA) at Hanover School Division. Luke graduated from Steinbach Christian High School where he won the Doris Penner Writing Award. He is currently enrolled in the Creative Communications program at Red River College in Winnipeg and plans for a career in journalism or public relations work. His band, 3rd Pew, won the Battle of the Bands in Steinbach, Manitoba this past summer.
Sheldon worked as an EA at Hanover School Division; however, he is now enrolled in the Business/Technology Teacher Education program through Red River College and plans to continue on to the University of Winnipeg next year.
“I’ve always enjoyed learning, and feel very strongly about helping others learn,” says Sheldon. “After two years working in schools with my EA diploma, I felt ready to continue my passion in the field of education and the desire to teach.”
Holly is an EA at Hanover School Division. She is enrolled part-time in a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Manitoba, and hopes to attain her bachelor of education and become a teacher. She will continue to work as an EA while studying.
