DATE: October 15, 2010

Mississauga, ON—The Polish trade union Solidarnosc has invited CLAC, a long-time supporter, to join in celebrations in Poland to mark the 30th anniversary of its founding at the Gdansk shipyard. Executive Director Dick Heinen will be travelling to Poland to honour Solidarnosc, the first non-communist party-controlled trade union in a Warsaw Pact country and a key player in delivering freedom and democracy to Eastern Europe.

"I would like to congratulate Solidarnosc, its staff, and its members on this momentous occasion,” says Heinen. “Solidarnosc has always been an inspiration to CLAC for its courageous commitment to the dignity of workers. CLAC shares that basic commitment and its founding principles, and we are truly honoured to be a part of the celebrations. We wish Solidarnosc many more years of success."
