Sheet Metal Workers Employed by Good Mechanical Join CLAC

DATE: November 11, 2011

Ottawa—Sheet metal workers employed by Good Mechanical have now made official the decision to leave the Sheet Metal Workers International Union, Local 47, to become members of CLAC.

Following a successful decertification application filed with the Ontario Labour Relations Board that took over two years to be confirmed, workers voted unanimously today to join CLAC and ratify a first collective agreement.

The agreement will see workers receive a significant increase in the amount of take-home pay from their previous agreement under Local 47. It also contains employer-paid health and welfare benefits, contributions to the CLAC Pension Plan, tool allowance, and shift and overtime premiums.

“We are very pleased to welcome these workers into our union,” says Brendan Kooy, CLAC eastern Ontario director. “Now that this group has finally won the fight to leave Local 47, we look forward to representing them for years to come.”

CLAC also represents plumbers and gasfitters at Good Mechanical.
