Sarnia, ON—Members of Construction Workers Local 53 employed by Concrete Systems accepted terms for a renewed three-year collective agreement providing increases to wage rates and pension contributions in each year.
The agreement also provides improved reimbursement for safety boots, extension of healthcare benefits, and compensation if employees are called away from work for matters such as jury duty. A main feature of the settlement is the introduction of direct deposit payment.
“Our members are very pleased with the pay and pension increases, but they were really glad to see the introduction of direct deposit,” says Roger Grootenboer, Ontario representative with Local 53. “It was good to see how two sides at negotiations could come together to arrive at common solutions to workplaces issues.”
