Mitchell Middle School Receives Donation for Playground

DATE: July 05, 2012

Winnipeg—Mitchell Middle School is $2,500 closer to reaching its goal of building a walking path, fitness stations, and playground equipment, thanks to a donation from CLAC as part of its Building Communities Together program.

Mitchell Middle School was nominated by Sylvia Hiebert, an Educational Assistant represented by Education, Service, and Health Care, Local 306, affiliated with CLAC.

“This was a really good fit,” says Sylvia. “I believe in the project, and loved the idea of having our union involved in such a great way in our workplace. I was delighted to see my application was accepted!”

Geoff Dueck Thiessen, CLAC Winnipeg regional director, presented the cheque to Ms. Hiebert and Rachel Penner, another educational assistant who is the president of the Parent Advisory Council, which is spearheading the playground project for the school. “It’s inspiring to see how much passion our members have for their communities and for the students they work with,” says Dueck Thiessen. “I can’t wait to come back and see the project completed.”
