Looby Members Ratify Lofty New Contract

DATE: September 24, 2012

Dublin, ON—Employees of Looby Construction, who are members of Construction Workers Local 53, have approved a new collective agreement with their employer that provides significant gains for the membership.

The three-year agreement includes wage increases ranging from ten to over twenty percent for some employees. The contract also includes the introduction of a defined contribution pension plan managed by the union, with employer contributions of $1.75 per hour. A variety of allowance improvements are also included to assist employees with the increasing cost of travel to work.

“Support for the new contract was overwhelming,” says Ian DeWaard, CLAC Ontario representative. The collective agreement is the second negotiated between the union and the company.

Looby Construction is a bridge building company that works all across Ontario.
